Ze citeert uit literaire werken, persteksten en films en maakt gebruik van bekende personages. Dat resulteert in video’s en drukwerk. Di Bianco’s werk stelt steeds hoge eisen aan de actieve kritische rol van het publiek. Als geen ander laat ze de onderhuidse ironie van alledaagse uitspraken op de voorgrond treden. Dat geldt zeker voor Corrections and Clarifications de krant die ze sinds 2001geregeld uitbrengt. Het is een verzameling van de rechtzettingen die wereldwijd in 39 Engelstalige kranten verschenen. De data worden genoemd, maar de krant waarin de fout werd gemaakt, wordt nergens gespecificeerd. De korte stukjes kunnen daardoor enkel gelezen worden in hun eigen recht. Veel van de errata lijken vooral ingegeven door een bekommernis om de politieke correctheid. De auteurs ervan sloven zich uit om te neutraliseren wat wel degelijk op een onbewaakt moment bedoeld werd.

Her modus operandi is to rework and recontextualise material of all kinds. She quotes from literary works, press releases and films, and makes use of familiar figures. This results in videos and printed materials. Di Bianco’s work places high demands on the active, critical role of her viewers. Like no other, she lets the repressed irony of ordinary remarks come to the fore. That is certainly true for Corrections and Clarifications, the newspaper which she has been publishing regularly since 2001. It is a collection of the rectifications that have appeared in 39 English-language newspapers world-wide. The dates are given, but the title of the paper in which the error occurred is nowhere specified. The short items can therefore be read only for their own value. Many of the errata appear to be primarily promoted by a concern for political correctness. Their authors lean over backwards to neutralise what was indeed intended to be said in an unguarded moment. |
