E-flux Video Rental (EVR) is a project by Anton Vidokle and Julieta Aranda, comprised of a video rental store, a public screening room, and a film and video archive. Its collection, selected in collaboration with a large group of international curators, consists of more than 550 art films and video works, and is available to the public for home viewing free of charge. EVR started in a small storefront on the Lower East Side in New York in 2004. Since then it has traveled to venues in Frankfurt, Berlin, Amsterdam, Miami, Seoul, and will soon appear in Austin amongst other locations. For each of its new locations, EVR expands its inventory to include new selections by local curators invited jointly with the hosting institutions. In keeping with this, Extra City has invited Cis Bierinckx (Beursschouwburg Brussels), Maria Hlavajova (BAK, Utrecht), Nicolaus Schafhausen (Witte de With, Rotterdam), Christine Vanassche (Centre Pompidou, Paris), Wim Peeters (Extra City, Antwerp). In September EVR will travel to Manifesta 6 in Cyprus.
E-flux Video Rental (EVR) is een project van Anton Vidokle en Julieta Aranda. Het tentoonstellings-archief/project van de New Yorkse organisatie E-flux bestaat uit een video uitleen, een vertoningszaal, en een archief. De verzameling titels die werd samengesteld door een grote groep internationale curatoren bestaat uit zo’n 550 kunstfilms en videowerken. Deze kunnen gratis door het publiek worden ontleend of ter plaatse worden bekeken. EVR ging in 2004 van start in een kleine winkelruimte in de Lower East Side van New York. Sindsdien was het project te gast op locaties in o.a. Frankfurt, Berlijn, Amsterdam, Miami en Seoul. Op elke locatie wordt de inventaris verder aangevuld met een nieuwe selectie, gemaakt door gerenommeerde curatoren en kunstcritici.
Voor EVR in Antwerpen nodigde Extra City Cis Bierinck (Beursschouwburg, Brussel), Maria Hlavajova (BAK, Utrecht), Nicolaus Schafhausen (Witte De With, Rotterdam), Christine Vanassche (Centre Pompidou, Paris) en Wim Peeters (Extra City, Antwerpen) uit om een eigen selectie toe te voegen. In september reist EVR door naar Manifesta 6 te Cyprus.
